Heavy Rescue incidents can be some of the most challenging incidents an emergency responder can attend. The ability to share and talk through tactics and options from the incident scene can be very helpful to an Incident Commander.
Gareth Lloyd is the lead in the UK Fire and Rescue Service for Heavy Rescue and has just retired after 30 years’ service within Avon Fire and Rescue Service. In that 30-year career, Gareth has attended a large number of serious Heavy Rescue Incidents, some that have been reported on Nationally, as either the Incident Commander or as a Tactical Advisor. Gareth also provided vital communications with between the Control room and external agencies to ensure that the correct supporting response was mobilised.
Gareth is also the Assistance Director of Education within the United Kingdom Rescue Organisation (UKRO) and has assisted the National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC) with writing the Heavy Rescue National Operational Guidance.
