Gareth Lloyd is a leading figure in the UK Fire and Rescue Heavy Rescue and RTC Extrication scene. Gareth retired from the Fire Service in 2023 after a 30 year career, based mainly around Heavy and Technical Rescue. Since 2005 he has designed, resourced and delivered Heavy Rescue Courses and refresher training for his Fire and Rescue Service as well as assisting many others along their journey.
He has responded to numerous serious Heavy Rescue incidents of National Interest over the years as an operational Watch Manager or in later years a Flexi Duty Officer / Station Manager.
He currently is the Assistant Director for Education for the United Kingdom Rescue Organisation (UKRO) and has led their Education Team since 2009 to produce UKRO National best practice and guidance, as well as a document author / subject matter expert to the National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC) Central Program Office (CPO) National Operational Guidance (NOG) project. Since 2010 Gareth has been a UKRO Technical and Command assessor, assessing RTC and Heavy Rescue competitions UK wide.
Gareth has spoken at numerous seminars over the years from UK wide training events hosted by manufactures, to specialist symposiums for Medical practitioners.
Alongside his Fire Service career Gareth worked as a Technical Lecturer at the DAF Trucks UK Apprentice College in Bristol. Since 2004 he has delivered commercial vehicle technical training to the DAF Trucks UK Apprentices.
Gareth is a National Plant Operators Register (NPORS) Instructor and Gareth Lloyd Technical Rescue Ltd is an accredited NPORS Training Centre.
Gareth's pre Fire Service background was as a vehicle mechanic specialising in light and heavy commercial vehicles.
He has a young family based in the West Country and in his spare time enjoys rugby, motorcycling, fishing / shooting as well as being an active RNLI Crew member / Mechanic at his local Lifeboat station.
